AWARD WINNING DESIGNS
Design Conception
This is the Sketch of my 1999 Lazerbration Pendant that won 2 Spectrum Awards.
Starwar's "The Phantom Menace" had just been released and was the highest grossing film of the year. My 2 boys were 12 and 13 and were enthralled with their Light-sabers. It was during one of their duels that I saw the beginning of my design. When the lights crossed I could see the mixing of the 2 colors and decided I would work with that concept. I designed the shape of the stones out of wax and asked AiVan Pham of Gem and Gold Creations in Scottsdale if he could cut them using Peridot and Amethyst rough. Only challenge he had was finding the Peridot rough for the length. After the stones were cut it started to fall in place. I cast the outer ring in Platinum and the inner cone shape in Rose Gold. The rose gold cone was sprinkled with pink Spinel and topped with a pink Tourmaline. The inside of the circle was high polished to reflect the colors and the outside was brushed so it would not compete with the colors that protruded through it. The bottom part of the pendant swivels so that both side can be see.
This pendant won first place in the $2,501- $5,000 Division and AGTA also created a new award, Best Use of Cut , for "The Lazerbration ".
